How treasures are guarded (download)
People tend to think that fascinating nature wonders can be found only in far-away exotic lands, often forgetting about the treasures of their own country. What is close at hand, is sometimes ignored and not valued.
The Leningrad Region, with its forests, rivers and lakes, is a unique natural pearl. Its area, equal to those of Denmark and Switzerland combined, is inhabited by 60 species of mammals, 300 species of birds and 80 species of fish. In short, its nature is a treasure, which is to be carefully guarded.
Protected areas are an important tool of nature conservation. The film offers a tour of the protected areas of the Leningrad Region. You will descent into the caves of Sablino, winter home of bats, enjoy the picturesque scenery of Rakovye Lakes, visit Kurgal'skii and Gladyshevskii sanctuaries, go on a boat trip to the Berezovye Islands, and see the ornithological station at Lake Ladoga, annually passed by millions of migrating birds.
The film was made by request of the Leningrad Region government.
